Default RCN badge (possible) unknown

Every so often a badge comes out of the blue that I have no idea what it was or what it was for. This is one of those -- it was described as an RCN badge & certainly has the look & stitching of a wartime RCN badge, but I have no idea what is was for -- anybody have thoughts on it?

Thanks,
RCN Bryan

Hi Bryan

I also saw this on a certain site and thought you would pick it up. I was hoping you could tell us what it was used for. I have no idea and cannt find it in any books of course it dosnt have to be navy although it was listed as such.

I have no idea what it was or if even worn in uniform David.
Its not in any RCN reference that I have.

But it has the "look" of an RCN badge.

Perhaps someone will come along that might know tho,

Best wishes, Bryan

Hi Brian

Having looked at it again the way 'canada' bends suggests a shoulder title if it was an arm badge surely 'canada' would bend the other way. What do you think?
Only a thought but if this is the case I dont know of any navy that wears a crown on the shoulder.
It might be one of those badges that we will never know the story.

Possibly an early Regulating Branch badge? Or a Canadian Sea Cadet insignia

Just to think outside the box - possibly from a wartime women's volunteer organization, or a local Civil Defence group. THese groups usually ignored the need to obtain Roayl assent prior to using the crown in a badge.

CANADA shoulder titles during 2WW could be straight across (ie: not curved) I have a couple examples. After 1950 they were all curved.

I dont think its a shoulder badge David, if it is indeed RCN I feel its something else, & yes it might be tied into Naval Police during the war, perhaps sewn onto an armband, but again, they had regulation white arm bands with the blue crown. & these are illustrated earlier in the RCN section.

& of course it may not even be RCN, but as I said earlier, to me to has the "look' of an RCN badge,

B

No I don't think Sea Cadets. Yes they wore red badges prior to 1950, but their shoulder titles were specific to Sea Cadets (ie: Royal Canadian Sea Cadets), & I am unable to illustrate photos of examples of pre 1950 SCC insignia as I am away for a while.

Yes Clive that is certainly a possibility to be considered.
