I agree with Grumpy and would go further to say 1937-38, which is when the khaki serge Field Service Cap (side hats) were first issued, generally reaching units ahead of battle dress, for wear with which they were intended. When these first reached RE they were worn with the peaked SD cap badge, but later they reverted to the old Victorian practice of wearing a collar badge, which looked much smarter.

doing some family research - the man on the right is my Gr Grandfather and i was kinda hoping the other 2 were Royal Inniskilling Fusilers and were his brothers, who were both killed in the first world war.

but as one question is answered more are created
