"Thankful Villages"....about WW1 Villages that didnt have any War dead.

I bet they had pretty small populations...

Yes they did have small numbers.... but most of the small villages outside Market Towns were like that.

The 15 min piece by Tony Roe was very well done. Tony is the adopted son of a Leicestershire (PAO) Yeoman that fought at Frezenberg in WW1. Albert Roe, his father, was in C Squadron and survived having been in the forward trenches during the battle..... one of the few that survived that 24 hours (Frezenberg) and then the whole war.

Default Thankful Villages

Somewhere in my upper library, commonly known as the attic, I have a copy of "English Heritage Magazine" with an article on Thankful Villages. It gives a list of all recorded and also of double thankfuls where the men all returned from both wars. I will dig it out and pass on the info.
