why does anyone think that Tiptaft made these badges. are there any badges out there with Tiptaft marks? i have seen many of these badges and none had the quality you would expect of a Tiptaft badge.

there are so many variations in these badges especially the ones that were supposedly made/cast in egypt. who knows which ones are good or not. almost worth buying and collecting all the varieties. chances are you will get a good one sooner or later. you just wont know which one it is.

I have been looking for a hat badge or a full set but after reading all this my chances of finding a gooden is remote

The collars are hard to find but I don't think the hat badge is super rare.

I've seen quite a few around over the last 10 years or so. All good ones as well.

Default A picture of my spare badge at last

Sorry it has taken me so long to find and photograph this. It is hat badge size, a theatre-made casting but guaranteed original, have had it for years. As you can see, there is a break in the trident and it has been re-lugged. Because of the condition you can have it for 30 pounds postpaid from Australia.

hi jack
these are one of the hardest badges to know if good or not.
i personally think most of these badges are duds, but having said that, i do feel that there is more chance of a cast badge like kingsleys and those rough looking badges that mick showed a few posts back as being genuine. i think most of these badges were sand cast and roughly made.
but who knows. the 1970-80s had the market flooded with these badges. every army disposal store had them, probably sourced from pakistan. if you compare the numbers available of this badge to say the other unofficial/semi official badges say the 6th LHR then there are far to many 13th around
good luck
bc

i'm not questioning what people are saying here but when you say "Guaranteed genuine" or "verified genuine" or "with provenance", then please tell us HOW.
these duds are at least 40+yrs old.

This hat badge was made in both Egypt and by Tip Taft in the UK. There are also many reproductions of the hat badge in existence.

I do not believe TIPTAFT ever made the 13th LH Dancing Devil.
Fakes have appeared on the market recently that have had a TIPTAFT makers mark that were fake. Those Dancing Devil badges are basically worthless due to the amount of fakes that have been produced. Its unfortunate.

Thanks, Jas

Why do you say TIPTAFT never made them?

The regiment served on the Western Front (after Gallipoli) as divisional cavalry and it makes sense to me that if they needed badges they would get them from the UK.

Prior to that they were in Egypt and Gallipoli so to me the sand cast badges would have been the earlier versions.

I've also never seen a Dancing Devil badge with any sort of maker's mark.

Mick
