Irish Guards badge
I picked this little badge up on Sunday, I presume it is an Irish Guards officers "pip", but as this is the first one I have seen I wonder whether anyone can confirm it.
Thanks in advance Rob |

Irish Guards pip
Thanks for the reply, the pip is anodised, any idea as to when these pips first came into use?

Think these were first worn just after WWI. Not sure when the staybrite star was introduced.

Irish Guards pip
Thanks Irish Horse, so you think they first appeared just after the Great War, that is about 100 years ago and after all this time this is the first I have ever seen.
Where have they been hiding I wonder? Rob |

I also have a brass one, (probably originally gilt). And a couple of bullion, in my Irish Guards album.

First introduced in 1919. Prior to that the Bath star was used. Bronzed stars were used for tactical and battle dress and laterly on the jersey pullover. The bronzed star was replaced by embroidered worsted stars for combat dress in 1966. The source of this Data is; Col W.W. Mahon, The Irish Guards Star Part II, The Irish Guards Journal 1987, p 42. At the time Col Mahon was the Lt. Col. commanding the regiment.
