Default Royal North Devonshire Yeomanry

I just recieved this badge in the mail this morning and as far as my limited knowledge of British badges goes I'm happy with it. The Lambourne and Co on the main body has the underscored o and it's bronze badge which seems like go indicators of an original badge. I'm just wondering why it would be double makers marked (plaque and imprint). Also the construction... the back is flat but the crown looks more die struck. I thought maybe it was made in two sections and then put together but it seems all one piece. All comments welcomed. Jim

It does remind me of the construction I have seen on WW1 era collar abdges such as the 20th Hussars. They were Gaunts rather than Lambournes.

Default Lambourne plaques

This is a new one on me, having stamped their name on the badge, they were not satisfied with that and put a plaque on it. Lambourne badges varied from good to very poor quality. I would be suspicious, only an opinion, but I ask myself why bother, especially as Lambourne badges were produced during WWI when labour was at a premium.

Jim,
If your badge was not marked at all, it would probably not raise any concerns!!! If it dropped through my letter box I'd be more than happy to have it as a genuine item. From the photographs both of the makers marks and the plaque/plate/cartouche look fine, as to why both? "Belt & Braces!!"

Default RND Yeo

I cannot comment upon this badge, however, I do have a badge with a fake Gaunt metal plate attached. What's to say the same hasn't happened to Lambourne's, Firmin etc?
Stephen.

This is my latest buy. Unfortunately the late Taxicar flooded the market with repros of this one but I am satisfied that this is genuine.

Hi All,
Mine is similar to Jim's at start of the thread with both Lambourne plaque and stamp. Been in the collection a long time.
Cheers, Tinto

Thought I’d resurrect this old thread to show my favourite purchase of 2020. An almost mint ORs GM North Devon Hussars with Lambourne plate and 2 Lambourne stamp marks.
