1st King Edward's Horse Badge ?
Hi there, I'm new to the forum.
A great uncle of mine served in the 1st King Edward's Horse. I've been on the hunt for a cap badge... Here's where I need your expertise folks ! Could somebody give me the correct/authentic look/description ? I've seen silver/white metal looking badges on the net. I'd read elsewhere that these are fakes... What finish should the badge have ? i.e. Gilded/Brass like the 2nd KEH ? Also, should the badge have a slider instead of lugs ? Any feedback would be most appreciated. Cheers Wig |

Welcome, Not able to post a picture at moment but it is brass sometimes refered to as gilding metal which is brass with a particular copper content. Avoid any white metal ones, Mine is brass with a slider and genuine but i dont know if a lugged one was made, Hope this helps , regards Kevin

Hi there Simon,
Thanks for the heads up, and posting the pics. I really appreciated it. Regarding the collecting 'bug'... I've got a few WW1 AIF rising sun badges. I hope tracking down the KEH badge doesn't open a can of worms ! Cheers Wig |

King Edward's Horse
G'day Wig
Welcome to another Aussie on the forum although your GPS seems to have got you lost in the USA !! Re KEH the badges are in brass or gilding metal and have sliders, the 2nd KEH is a little different and has a 2nd under the crown and different scrolls and 1914 at the bottom. There are KEH collars in brass with 2 N - S lugs, the shoulder title is KEH over KODR there is also a 2/KEH shoulder title for 2nd KEH. Kipling & King only lists the 2 badges in brass or gilding metal, there is a smaller officers badge in bronze. Have a look at the Clanfield Militeria site, they have 2 sites one has photos and descriptions, the other has lists only, click on the Yeomanry list and scan down to (the Kipking & King) number 1507 or 8 and you should find what you are looking for. I hope that this helps and short circuits your search. Also good luck with the rising suns there are lots of varieties, have a look in the Aussie section down the front page and look under General Service badges, Rising Suns. Regards Phil. Down Under. |
