Parachute wings for SOE female agents
Hello,
I am new on this forum and coming from France, so I hope you will excuse me for my english. I have been very glad to discover the forum because in France, it is quite difficult to find informations about british insignias. My first contribution is a question. Has anyone ever seen the parachute insignia worn on her FANY uniform by the famous agent Lise de Baissac on this photo? As for me, it is an unofficial SOE insignia worn during the war only by female agents who had made the parachutist course, but not the last jump to get the wings, as women were not supposed to fight. Do you agree with this supposition? I would be glad to see such an insignia... Thank you. |

SAS cap badges from French paratroopers
Here photos of three cap badges from my collection, and directly get either from the SAS themselves or their family:
Top left: Raymond POLLET, 2rd Coy 3rd SAS Rgt Top right: Pierre DEVANNES, 3rd Coy 3rd SAS Rgt cloth cap badge: Aimé LLOPIS, 3rd Coy 3rd SAS Rgt. What is not well know, is that the parachute regiment cap badge (without lion and crown, the "chien-chien et son panier" / "the little dog and his basket" as the French SAS said - sorry for that!) was initialy worn on the back beret. But it was not rare to see it still worn on the maroon beret, alone or with both the cloth SAS cap badge. I am still looking for genuine SAS and parachute regiment insignias and wings. |

The "SAS cap badges post" shouldn't be in the same post concerning SOE.
I hope somone on the forum will be able to help me (sorry, I just start on the forum). |

Is this a modern reproduction of the "wings"
I have been told this pattern was worn by F.A.N.Y. members attached to the S.A.S.(TA regt) during the '60'S????????? I think there is a thread here on the forum somewhere. Found it:- http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ght=FANY+WINGS

SOE wing on cuff
Pianiste,
Many thanks for posting this picture. It is the first time I have seen a wing of this design in a WW2 context. I perhaps now have a better understanding of why the design was chosen for the 1960's wing produced for 21 SAS FANY. I look forward to many more of your posts. Best regards, Andy |
