As we have already discussed a/a wasnt loved and the pins are rather fragile. They will have had queues outside the QMs asking for replacements . The change to lugs would have been rather quick. I have paperwork suggesting that the buttons ended up ruined through the use of brasso on them and that brass buttons should be reinstated.
"Anodised Aluminium: The 'No Bull' Cap Badge of the British Army" indicates that the new anod. al. badges were so popular during trials that some appeared to have been stamped on.

I think only a single subaltern and a dozen or so men, they seem to have lost their regimental cap badges too, with the awful brigade badges being worn instead.

The Monmouth school CCF badge was a gold dragon on blue . They supposedly carried on the traditions of the Monmouthshire Rgt.

Officers wore their usual collars upon SD, but, Home Service Full Dress was withdrawn in September 1914, with the result that the rank and file had no collar badges to wear for the duration, they were not normally worn on SD, notwithstanding, I dare say you might have encountered odd NCO's who had managed to retain them for wear whilst at their depot.

Thanks for that. I have acquired a set which look like small badges of that period. Any idea what period they would be ?

No idea without a photograph, perhaps, starting a new thread with one would be the way to go.
