Glamorgan Militia & Rifle Volunteers
This one is for Bantam as a special request.
I will post more when I get around to photographing them. 1.10th (Cardiff) Glamorganshire Rifle Volunteers Officers' Silvered Shako plate, worn 1860. Became 2nd Admin Battn. 1861, 2nd Corps 1880, 3rd V.B Welsh 1887. 2.Rear of the above showing old lead solder repair to crown which is quite common on the shako plates. 3.As above but Pouch plate. 4.Rear of the above showing the two screw posts. Great to be able to put these two back together. Dros Urddas Cymru. |

Its badges like these that make the collecting worth the hunt in the face of the ever growing repro. How can you copy these truly magnificent badges with the depth of history these badges truly have? Thanks for showing these to us, cheers Dave

A large silver PoW plumes badge worn in the Glengarry circa 1884 by Officers of the 3rd Militia Battn The Welsh Regiment. Approx 2 1/2" high. Refer to Owen's book Vol2. The Glamorgan Regiments of Militia p.198 amongst others for photographic examples. The badge has a vertical pin fixing to the rear and has never been provided with any other type of fixing. |

16th Glamorgan - Bute Rifles
Just recently added, but long sought after.
This is an Officers' shoulder belt plate for the 16th Glamorgan Rifle Volunteers, Bute Rifles. Missing the top crown. Formed primarily from employees of the Bute Docks Company in Cardiff. Worn c.1860. Ideally I'd like the helmet plate as well, but I've never seen one. I've only ever seen two of these and know of one other. Thats two of the three Cardiff units ticked off (10th Cardiff Rifles Officers' helmet plate also shown), now for the 13th Llandaff to make it all three. Should be easy and only take another 20-30 years or so. |

Kevin,
I am sure you have seen the most interesting illustrated article by the late Bryn Owen on the 13th (Llandaff ) Glamorganshire Rifle Volunters in the MHS Bulletin of February 1978. Peter

Brookies post of the SWB VB battalion uniform reminded me I had this.
An ORs tunic to the 3rd Glam RV, one of the biggest volunteer units in the UK. I've also shown the Vic Officers' helmet plate. I'll post the ORs HP & cap badge when I get a little more time. Became 6th Welsh 1908. Hwyl, Kevin Last edited by 41st; 01-11-14 at 08:48 AM. |
