Default Northumberland Fusiliers Uniform

Hi All,

I was lucky enough to be on a course in a local Army Reserve Centre at the weekend where this old uniform was on display in the foyer.

I don't know if it's real or a repro for display but I thought it might be of interest to people here.

The buttons did confuse me a bit, maybe someone on here can explain them, I thought they look more like DLI than NF.

Very nice. I’m no uniform aficionado but it looks pretty real to me.

The 1st V.B. Northumberland Fusiliers wore a blackened brass cap badge due to their lineage from their antecedent RVC, so I think it’s entirely possible buttons like that were worn.

I’m if wrong I’m sure someone in the know will correct me.

… here’s hoping their foyer remains moth and sunlight free!

Thanks Luke,

It was in a shady corner so I'm sure it will be fine in the sunlight respect, I must admit I was a little surprised it was just out in the open for anyone in there to touch but I'm sure it's safe enough. It has been so far.

They are a generic Rifles pattern button on a lovely condition original tunic.

And again...
You can make out the black Rifles buttons, as the ones on the OP uniform.

A rare tunic. It would be confusing to those unversed in Victorian rifle volunteers uniforms. Nothing about it is similar to the regular NF uniform and their gosling green facings.
