Default Border Regiment Cap Buttons.

The OSD bronzed buttons attached to an old cap I've recently acquired are to The Border Regiment, does the lack of the word "CHINA" above the dragon indicate that they are buttons of the 3rd or 4th Battalions or was it sometimes omitted from the design due to the small size of the buttons please?

From Shoulder Belt Plates & Buttons by Major Parkyn which is about regular army units.

1904 Dress Regulations.
"On the cap button the dragon". No mention of China.
