Default Will someone help me with my buttons?

Hello, Has been a while since I posted here.
I am needing assistance with these 5 buttons. Large ones about 25mm & domed one about 15mm. Three makers, Ranken, Harman & one I can't make out on what looks to be the oldest one.
Thanks, Paul

The second button with NEPAUL on it has been identified as worn by the Escort to the British Resident in Nepal.

David.

David, thank you for the reply but not really sure what that means. Was the escort a protector/bodyguard? Or something else.?

I don't know for sure what their duties were but I assume they were a bodyguard. A search on google doesn't help much just giving a list of the Residents to Nepal.

It would be a help if you could clean up the backmark to try and date it. I think it might be HART & LEVY LEICESTER.

David.

Thanks for confirming that Paul. Google gives the company starting in Leicester in 1864, later opening other factories in the east midlands. They seem to be defunct by the 1960s. In 2001 the magazine of the British Button Society carried some articles on dating military button backmarks and Hart & Levy Ltd Leicester was estimated to be c.1880.
