Lovely Keith.
Is the one second from left the plate you had off me? If so it’s come up absolutely cracking, almost unrecognisable. Well done. |

At last some amazing answers to my questions. I have never seen any of the Maltese cross badges, truly awesome. The pages from Churchill were also very informative about the badges bought by NSW soon after they were worn in UK by the Middlesex and St Georges RV.
Am I correct that the small St George (with cape) in the centre of the Maltese cross is separate, i.e. a two piece badge? NSW wore Churchill 1482 in 1901-03 as collar badges both facing right, and also as a helmet plate. I saw a helmet many years ago in an estate lot. The 1869 gilt brooch in my first scan is still a mystery because it seems unlikely that the badge existed this early. Churchill 1481 was worn after Federation by the 1903-12 Commonwealth period St Geo Rgt on epaulettes, this time as far as I know both facing to the left (see scan). I still don't know if they were also worn in gilt but it seems likely because I have a 1903 gilt shoulder title. |
