7th Bn RWF 158th Bde 53rd Welch Division Printed
Hi all
Just added to my Normandy Collection one of the top units that fought in NW Europe and played a part in Hill 112 Normandy. I wanted a combo patch to show in my collection. Well worn , the image should be a brighter red Phill |

158 Inf Bde had a rather unfortunate history - its part in the Battle for Normandy with three battalions of RWF in the same brigade resonated with World War 1 - the impact of the casualties incurred was felt within the Regiment and within Wales. As a result, in Aug 44, 4 RWF was moved to 71 Inf Bn (also in 53 (W) inf Div) and 6 RWF was moved to 160 Inf Bde (also in 53 (W) Inf Div. This was a satisfactory reorganisation, but was a lesson identified but not learned from World War 1. As a result of all this shuffling around, 53 (W) Inf Div combinations are an excellent field for study and collecting.

Thanks Mike for the additional information.
I have been reading up on RWF,158th/53rd Welch as well as 5 DCLI 43rd in the Normandy operations. I'm one of those collectors that likes to know more of a unit and its history. I am very lucky to have these units in my collection. Phill |

Thanks Blue Puttes and Dob.
Yes it is important to focus on history. I do have a lot of sub-collections of cloth patches from various wars, WWI- to current. Phill |
