Great War Norfolk badge
Some years ago I bought this small wooden plaque with a Great War Norfolk badge and a enamelled shield below it. The shield has in the top right hand corner a Great War "services rendered" image and on the left side crossed flags but as for the rest of the shield I don't have a clue as to what it stands for.
Any help would be gratefully received. Rob |

Rob,
In the shield I see 1914 or 1914/15 star ribbon BWM ribbon Victory medal ribbon SWB RN officers rank insignia crossed flags representing the Army ? Overseas service stripes I think it might just be someones interpretation of a shield representing The Great War. Peter

Norfolk shield
Peter,
I think you have nailed it, I am not sure as to who or why this was made, obviously to commemorate the Great War but was it something readily available? I have never seen another one, so not that common. Rob |

Peter is bang on..... who ever made it was well into his heraldry Signals flags... red white and blue, medal ribbons. Not sure what the Naval rank is all about if the chap was in the Norfolk regiment.... but what a great piece. I am not from Norfolk.... but i would love to have that hanging on the wall
* The inverted chevrons probably reference the service years?

Norfolk badge
Andrew, thanks for the information on where it used to live, I am not sure where I got it from or how long I have had it. It looked good and I thought it was interesting and as a collector of East Anglian items I bought it.
Is the Britannia pub still open? Regards Rob |

Nope, opened in about 1973, shut mid 80s. Contents sold over the years by ex landlord, the frame of badges is with a Norfolk collector, not me.
