Default Cloth "TG" with oakleaves trade badge

Hi,
I have a oval shaped cloth badge like all the other "LG", "HG", "A" etc with the letters "TG" on, does anybody know what this stands for? Sorry I don't have a picture of it at the moment.

Cheers,
Rick

Cool "Trade badges"

Rick,

I am no expert on cloth badges, but I think many of these were totally unofficial and were made up during WWII.

TG could be Tank Gunner, but as I've never seen one I'm sure the cloth badge experts may have more positive answers.

Default Letter in Wreath trade badges

As Rob said there are many apparently unofficial letter in wreath trade badges. Here are some I have. TG on left.

Edwards & Langley show "TG" in a wreath. with the letters in italics, & mention a version with crown above - but as "unknowns".
I've " assumed" that Tank Gunner was likely simply because I can't think of anything else TG would stand for.

Very interesting lot Tim. No wonder this hobby is so interesting and absorbing - always so many questions to find answers for.

I note that Australian mechanical transport drivers of the AASC in England in 1916 were wearing the letters MT in Wreath on their upper right arms. 10 Fd Amb RAAMC used to have a photo hanging in the orderly room we shared with them at one stage of drivers of the original 10 Fd Amb AIF wearing them.

All very nice badges but none of them have 'Oak' leafs.

Hi,
I stand corrected (getting confused with German badges!), is the correct term "Laural wreath"?
cheers,
Rick

I seem to remember this being an unofficial badge for Tommy Gun for some reason, but I can't find a reference for it. I looked through Brian Davis quickly and he doesn't seem to show one (in either BRITISH ARMY CLOTH INSIGNIA or BRITISH ARMY UNIFORMS AND INSIGNIA).

Bennett's book mentions that "Tank Gunner" was a "G" badge.

Yes it is for British and some Commonwealth badges, however there are badges with an Oak Leaf surround.
