US ARCTIC CAN "blaze"
Over the fall and winter 1949-50, a joint exercise was staged in Alaska and the Yukon. Calle Excerise Sweetbriar, the scheme was to test winter warfare equipment and training, culminating in a wargame. Two Canadian regiments particpated, 1 PPCLI and a battalion of the Royal 22é Régiment. Continuing with a precedent set by Ex Eskimo and Ex Musk Ox, a unique shoulder blaze was worn. It is not clear if the shoulder arc, called a "blaze" at the time was worn by the Canadian elements. They may have been given titles as a souvenir.
Does anyone have an image of Canadians wearing the blaze?
