Default 5 Canadian Armoured Division officer's formation sign

When 5 Canadian Armoured Division (originally 1 Cdn Armd Div but re-designated 5 in 1941) was considering formation signs a proposal for an design with a spur imposed on the maroon rectangle was submitted. These were to be for officers, as the CII design was for 2 Canadian Infantry Division. The proposal was not authorized and it was indicated that plain formation patches were to be worn by officers in non-regimental appointments. Officers on the establishment of the regiments on the order of battle of 5 CAD were to wear the newly authorized imposed formation patches.
Recently a bullion wire 5 CAD "spur" patch has surfaced. It was suggested that one order for some samples or for some eager officers was placed before the edict was pronounced. The 5 CAD spur patch is illustrated below.

This could be the find of the year...if not of the century, given the fact that perhaps 10 or 12 were made....

I forgot to mention that the spur device reflected the fact that all of the armoured regiments on the order of battle had previously been cavalry regiments.

There is photographic evidence of vehicle formation signs which feature the spur. This suggests that permission may have been asked for after the fact, implying that several pair may have been made and possibly worm.

That possibility had passed through my mind. The 5 CAD spur sign was on some vehicles in the UK. It begs the question if the patches were made in Canada or overseas.
The workmanship is excellent.
