Default Today's Cavalry finds.

Hello folks, could I ask for some opinions on these 3 cavalry badges please, are they good or bad ? All comments welcome.

The 20H is a fake.

Note the 3 footed loops.

The 23H is an unmarked Firmin example, a nice badge.

The bronzed cast design and lugs is more akin to an officers' badge than an ORs. It appears to have had the bronze to the front polished off. The footed lugs are not nice but I would not discard it just yet.

Thank you gentlemen for your comments. Could someone give a verdict on the 17th Lancers ? I find it difficult to know a good from a bad with this badge. Ive bought about 3 duffers to date. Just want to get a good one into my collection.
Regards, Jim.

Looks OK for a 17th/21st - same design but is later than WW1 imo.

I think from the photographs that it could be an original badge, but, certainly not a great example and as Alan says, unlikely to be a 17th.

Indeed, those footed lugs are scary, but the rest of the badge says polished OSD to me as well, and not like any fake that am aware of.
One has to be careful with such lugs as some original badges did have lugs that are very similar to the infamous footed fakes.
My 20H OSD collar has three lugs as well, as I think the vast majority did.

Well, to be quite honest, I think if I needed a Death or Glory Boy's, I'd just go for a nice old one with ears!
