Home Guard Title colors
Can any one tell me or point me in the correct direction as to the significance of the colors of Home Guard titles.
Thank you John |

HG title colours
I believe I'm correct in saying that the only official titles were the printed dark blue on khaki version. Everything else was a private purchase/ unofficial item, most of which were produced as a stop-gap between the issue of denim uniforms and the issue of the official title. These variations are numerous and do not conform to any set standards.
See Jon Mills book 'uniforms and insignia of the LDV and the home guard 1940-1944 and 1952-1956' ISBN 978-1-84791-2. Stephen. |

I think ( but may well be wrong ) that I have read that Home Guard titles worn in the Manchester area were of differing colours but I cannot remember what they signify.

Peter,
You are right. The East Lancashire Area, No. 3 Zone had 5 seperate Groups, each containing 3 seperate HG units. This covered the whole of the, now, Greater Manchester Area. Each of those 5 Groups had the HOME GUARD shoulder Title in different colours. Red, Black, Green, Blue and Yellow I have yet to establish which colour matches to which group and would be gratefull if anyone knows. regards
