ORs' field service cap, (forage, Indian pattern),
I've found references in 1908 to sealed patterns of "other ranks' field service cap, (forage, Indian pattern)".
Would I be correct in thinking these were the forefathers of the coloured FS cap (chip bag style) worn with Undress uniform later in the century? Stephen. |

Yes. These side caps continued to be worn in India etc when the UK based Army had adopted the brodrick and then the peaked cap.
The style had a resurgence in the last 1930s with the adoption of the khaki side cap and the multitude of coloured regimental side caps. |
