A modern made example, if you do a burn test you will find synthetic fibres.

Have they tried to fake moth damage on this?

These things have certainly been around since the late 1970's I do remember you buy them for £1-£2 each, not great if you bought it as an original 1940's example, just return it and get a refund if you did.

Trained mini goats?

It does not look very convincing compared to actual moth damage, thankfully!
