Smile 2nd VB Sherwood Foresters, Derbyshire Regiment

Hi all,

I recently had 48 hours in London with work and picked up some badges and posted some repairs to Dave. At last I have some time to share this one with you all as not a common badge IMO.

2nd Volunteer Battalion Sherwood Foresters, Derbyshire Regiment QVC Officers badge, silver with blue enamel backing. The 2nd VB were originally the 3rd Derbyshire Rifle Volunteers and took the VB title in 1887 and then became the 6th TF Battalion in 1908.

This badge hence dates 1887-1903. Adding a few more from the trip to my albums.

Cheers Dean

Very attractive badge Dean, a rare acquisition and nice to see it brought back into great condition.

Thanks Alli and Toby,

I scored a few nice Notts & Derby badges, a couple of Pals titles and a trip to the London Stock a Exchange !

Flew back with Michael Clarke. I had a much better trip than him !

Cheers Dean

Dean

note from the attached that this badge was worn on both the Glengarry & The Forage Cap by the battalion.

Thanks John fascinating page to see, appreciate you sharing it very much. I note that the forage cap badge lacks the additional lower 2nd VB scroll but it is present on the waist belt badge.

Plenty of research potential here, cheers Dean.

Late reply to an old thread, but heres an example of the 2vb Derby WBC with the scroll.

As an aside, can anyone tell me if there is a period when the Stag has the space between the front and rear legs chiseled out so you can see the blue background between the ground and the body of the deer. I've seen this on early 1881 wbc's and some badges and wondered if this is just a manufacturer thing or a design change when it appears filled in later badges.

That is a cracking WBC thanks for sharing a pic of it. I imagine it was a makers variation as there is quite a bit of variation in stags between individual badges I have to the Derbyshire Regiment but that is generally between collars and cap badges etc.

Cheers Dean
