Default 5th Battalion Seaforths Cap Badge for HG

Gentlemen,

I am all but weary of weary of buying cap badges any more, except from a very few trusted dealers. I really want to add this badge to my Home Guard collection, but how can I tell a good one from a restrike or fake?

Thank you, Terry

The picture you show is of a genuine badge.

The fake (below) is significantly different especially the beasts face/nose. Also note the stereotypical fake features - coarse seeding and ToysRus letters.

Rather than putting faith in dealers I’d suggest researching on here first and if unsure asking before making a purchase. Even the best dealers are human and make mistakes time to time.

P.S. be very sceptical of anyone trying to sell one of these as a ‘Home Guard’ badge unless it has cast iron provenance. This design was worn by the TF battalions as your post alludes and consequently 99.9% of these badges are just that. I would pay no more than £20-25 for one.

Thanks Luke, I am truly happy to hear that one is real as it is the one I am looking at. I feel there is probably little opportunity for me to find one with provenance to an HG member, which would be very nice by the way. So, I can be happy with a true example as it was worn by at least one HG unit.

Thank you again, very helpful!!!

Terry
