Thanks Luke. I had noted you mentioned a crimped badge and if no other clues available I do tend to go for crimped slider badges in general. I think this is the only crimped slider fitted WG variation I have seen.
Do you know what period the curved Gaunt mark on slider fitted WG badges are from? Regards, Paul. |

Was the curved Gaunt stamp used only in WW1?

Apparently so.

Does that period fit with the mark use on WM Robin Hood badges? I thought they used BB badges during the war- I think my one has a gaunt tablet, I had thought the curved mark would be post Great War. Regards, Paul.

The single line curved mark isn’t a one size fits all there are variations.
Andy would you mind posting a picture of your badge please. Does the curved mark read ‘J.R.GAUNT & SON LONDON’ or ‘J.R.GAUNT.LONDON’? The WM Robin Hoods is I suspect the later badge. |

Hello Luke. I had not noticed but looking at my WG examples they are marked '& Son'- looking on the forum the Robin Hood curved mark does not have '& Son'. Thanks for pointing that out. Regards, Paul.

Yes that’s an early mark. I’ve seen it before on a F&F Yeo.
Two!!! You lucky devil. If you ever look to move one on please keep me in mind. I don’t have an example of that mark yet in my collection. |

Bought them both last year Luke, as my initial efforts at a suitable Great War WG badge, then had doubts as I could not find confirmation of such a badge having WWI links- so have been looking for a partial crimp example. Now it seems I may have 3 badges of the period. Regards, Paul.

Yes Andy, the curved Gaunt mark badges do have a light double score crimp. As though I was unsure of the period of the Gaunt badges I looked for the unmarked clear crimp type-which I have seen on the forum, with a service number, one of yours and one shown by Griff. It looks though that both types are OK for what I wanted. I guess its the same for the most of us that we tend to end up with more than one example of each infantry regiment badge. Regards, Paul.
