Default Canadian Provost Corps, cap badge or pocket badge.???

Good day to all.A question to all fellow Canucks. I have what seems to be a "cap badge" to the Canadian Provost Corps" in the style worn by the old-time regular city police and made in Montreal by Lamond. I haven't seen it in on Cameron's website, so.......Can anyone help ???? Time period, by whom, where.???? Why create a "special" cap or breast badge for the Provost.???
Cheers
Jo

Pretty cool. I've never seen one before.

It looks pretty large to be a cap badge. Could it be a wallet badge for 'plain clothes' MP's who were out looking for deserters & such? I recall seeing such a thing in a CEF collection at one time.

For sale??

I'm still wondering why the C Pro C would come up with a badge, since they already wore the cap badge, while in uniform, or wore an armband. If you could find where you saw it, let me know, please.
Question #2.....not yet.

In the early 1950s the Montreal Provost Detachment of the Quebec Command Provost Company had a small run of badges made availible for private purchase. There are three known patterns, all in the style of badges then in use by Quebec police departments. There was a cap badge (the one Jo has); a large breast style badge; and a small wallet size badge. I have no idea why a cap badge and breast badge were produced as they would never have been permitted to be worn on a military uniform. The wallet badge was carried in the member's wallet and was used while wearing plain clothes. All are rather scarce.

Jo,

I can't remeber much about the CEF era badge I mentioned (I don't collect CEF, so didn't pay enough attention) It may have been on ebay or one of the auction catalogues. Different than yours, of course - I think it was brass & said 'Special Constable', 'Special Police" or something like that.

Chris Brooker told me it was used by un-uniformed MP's working off military bases. Maybe somebody on the forum has one or knows more.

Doug

Doug,
Some of the badges worn by CEF Military Police are illustrated herehttp://mpmuseum.org/ww1badge1.html about halfway down the page.
