Uniform Identification Required Please
I wonder if anyone can identify the uniforms in the attached picture.
I have tried to see what the cap badges are but they are quite blurred. I think they may be Canadian uniforms, but cannot be sure. Any help would be much welcomed. Thanks. |

Hello Tom
Thanks for your reply. That could make sense, as one of the people who I think it is in this photo joined the North West Mounted Police in 1898, aged 24, and progressed through the ranks, finally retiring from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police from the rank of Assistant Commissioner in 1933, aged 59. Would these later years fit in with your thoughts? Thanks, Tricia. |

The white cap covers made me think of Royal Marines.

Let me dig out the email of a friend in the RCMP, and I'll see if I can ask his opinion.

They are senior RCMP commissioned officers circa the mid to late 1920s or early 1930s. Very nice photo.
Cheers, John

I found a picture on googlebooks from a book called 'The Royal Canadian Mounted Police 1873-1987' By David Ross, Robin May, Richard Hook. There is a picture in there on page 22 of HRH Edward, Prince of Wales, visiting Regina in 1919. He is pictured with commissioner Aylesworth Bowen Perry, and other people. There is a chap in the picture who resembles the right hand chap in my picture, and standing two rows behind him is a chap who resembles the centre chap in my picture - as much as I can determine from such a small photo. I believe the centre chap in my photo to be my grandmother's uncle. The only other photo I have of him is one I found on the Yukon Archives Image Database, dated 1899. Between 1912 and 1932 he was an Inspector, and became assistant commissioner in 1932. Your thoughts and suggestions would seem to concur with my thoughts - thank you both so much. Best regards, Tricia |
