Default Help with MkII Brodie Helmet

Hi,
Can anyone help with the painted marking on the reverse of the attached helmet.

Helmet is dated 1940 if that helps

I thought of that but the bottom part would be missing, under the gunk I can see no sign of it

Not chipped off by the look of it.
Painted on the rear rather than the front of the helmet - any chance the symbol was in luminous paint?

Hard to tell if it was Leigh,
Any luminescence has probably degraded over the years.
