REDCROSS 146 LONDON
Hello,
Could the experts in the British section kindly help me with regards to this Red Cross badge. I would be interested to learn in what period this badge was worn and whether it's a hat badge or shoulder title. And does the 146 represent anything ? The badge measures 62 mm in width and 36 mm in height. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I'm sorry, but presently the badge is unavailable for sale. Many thanks, Invest

Hello,
Its a BRCS shoulder title, worn upto WW2 when cloth replaced them. Its unusual as its a hand made one piece title whereas normal ones consisted of a seperate RED CROSS title, COUNTY title and seperate numbers all on a brass back plate with split pins. The number 146 is the VAD with the County of London. regards

The Report of the activities of the work of the County of London Branch of the British Red Cross Society for 1914 to 1919 lists L/146 as coming from the Society's Paddington Division.
One of eight VAD detachments in the Borough, the Commandant of L/146 was Miss McSweeney, MBE whose address is given as 21 Sussex Square. Street View suggests the area has been extensively redeveloped and no houses from the period seem to have survived. The report has 7 pages on the activities of the Paddington Division. If you would like a copy PM me. Jon |

Jon, Thanks for the additional info re 146. Does the report have a definitive list of all the BRCS London Divisions, ie Paddington, Wandsworth, Westminster etc etc? If so would it be possible to email me a copy of such list please? regards
