Default 24TH FOOT-OPINIONS SOUGHT.

Hi chap's. I wanted to post this to see what the general reaction would be to this if you were offered it. For it's age I think a little too clean, but maybe I'm wrong.

I looked up to see if anyone had a helmet plate of the period to see if they matched. But nothing in the galleries.

Anyway, what do you think.

Regards

Simon.

I think it might have been worn by Michael Caine in the early 60s

It could equally be one of the scores of these helmets currently being offered on ebay - modern reproduction helmets with restrike shako plates. There is also no evidence that the shako plate was being worn universally by the 24th Foot in the Zulu war around 1879 whereas it is more likely that the helmets were unbadged for most of the troops. Many still wore their shakos of the 1869-78 pattern, most wore foreign service kepis with neck protectors. David

Hiya Simon

I can only show you my 1869-1878 Shako Badge for the 1st ASC to use as a comparison, other than that it's up to you to decide.
Hell of a lot of detail missing off of your Shako Badge though.

Mine is an Original from the period, only put it up this morning.
Cheers Ken

My thoughts all round. I wanted to post it to see what the team's opinions were. The chap on Ebay os selling a whole host of helmets etc form an estate sale. He has a nice Adrian I might consider. There are 5 bids and $100 dollars on it at the moment. I'm curious what he gets for it in the end.

Thanks all

Simon.
