Unknown VR brass title
I recently acquired this VR title hoping it may be RAF associated. I have been since informed that the RAF never produced this style.
It measures 27mm wide by 15 mm high. If any member can come up with a positive identity I would be grateful. Regards Graham |

"VR" title
I would suggest Volunteer Rifles, possibly Colonial.

Quite probably Victorian Rangers, an Australian unit.

I think Keith is right about it being Victorian Rangers. There are two variants of the VR title. Check out the title at the bottom of the attached pic. Dennis

Try again
It has never been quite clear to me what badge the Victorian Rangers wore before Federation in 1901. I have presumed they wore universal pattern Victorian badges.
Have attached a scan of another pattern brass title which seems to be post 1903, and I think I have seen other numbers as well. Were the two patterns of hat and collar badges (as shown in the Dennis' scan) worn concurrently after 1903 by the 1st and the 2nd? |

Another
Just found another VR title, this time in in white metal, of a similar size to the brass ones shown. It is also block letters with a slightly cursive end to the letter R. It does not have fullstops between the letters but hatching instead. I have always believe that this title is VICTORIAN RAILWAYS and corresponds to the QVC and KC WM buttons with an intertwined VR cypher that looks identical to Queen Victoria's.
Having scanner trouble at present and can't illustrate it. |

There are a few 1st Vic Rangers titles on display at the Stawell RSL (A, B, C, D & G Companies. Unfortunately my photography skills let me down on the day and this is the best I could do. These ones have a square dot.
