the best bit was exercises on WW2 bomb sites ..... we had volunteer casualties [I think there was a Fake Casualties Organisation] and most were girl secretaries and office workers having a useful skive. On several occasions having tunnelled and searched for 'victims' I was greeted by a grateful damsel, bored stiff, and if you could ignore the fake blood and blisters they were not unattractive. And wishing to show gratitude in spades. Happy days [pre-marriage I hasten to add!!!!!]

And where are the H.M Prison ones? They had HMP on them and staff as well as prisoners wore them when on fire guard etc

Hi Grumpy, ex Heavy Rescue leader myself! That outfit of Simulated injury personnel. were to my recollection called "Casualty Union" My God! Did they ever do a nice job of a shard of glass pierced through an arm, Protruding bones etc etc.!....Remember your "personal line" hanging on your belt? and that wonderful self release knot you tied to let yourself down from a second storey window and be b****y careful you came down on the correct rope? Jeez, that's 55 years ago! but I still have my silver star and certificate! Best regards, David J.

Oh! no certificate or badge here I am afraid, but the lapel badge gets brasso every November!
I had to show "leadership" by supervising my own rescue lashed on a stretcher from a third floor window somewhere in Bermondsey. Were the knots ever so scrutinised? Concentrates the mind a little! One rescue that I did was a suspiciously long time ending and the instructor commented on the lipstick on my ear when we emerged. Luscious!
