Blued Cap Badges
Does anyone know if the Blue Puttees also blued their cap badges as in the following ebay auction?

I hope that is just a trick of the light! See the third photo, I think that is a better representation. I don't think they blued their badges. Cheers, Ian. |

Collar dog
I have one of the smaller badges, I bought it thinking it was a sweetheart pin. Is it also possible that also correct it could be a collar dog?

Hi Jonhart, The badge in your image is a completely different striking than the standard badge. Could you provide an image of the reverse and the overall dimensions? There is no record of smaller size badges being made for collars.
It could be a sweetheart, or it could be a veteran's lapel type pin. No documentation has been found on the latter possibility.

Hi Wilf, Agreed that the collars look to be different size in the image and bear a distinct similarity to the one posted by Jonhart. Your images shows this un-documented pattern, now reinforced by the example posted above. The larger size was worn interchangeably as a cap and collar. Photo and artifact evidence support this practice. Now, the references need to be up-dated.
As indicated previously, most other ranks of the Newfoundland Regiment did not wear collar badges. It may be that the pattern was purchased.

Re
This is the link with the size and picture of the back from where I bought it. It is a pin back but looking it had have to have been replaced in recent years.

It appears the collars face to the left as viewed, both sides.

Showing my badge specimen. I have been going through the various Forum posts & threads on the subject and, although it came in a frame of miscellaneous collar badges, I have no doubt that it is in fact a cap badge. Dimensions 35mm x 28mm; space between loops 25mm.
As an ancillary to the badge I am showing a pair of stamps from the 1919 'Trail of the Caribou' set. Unfortunately, these are the only ones I have and I would be grateful if any member can help out with other values. We can then work out an exchange of sorts (if a stamp collector too) or whatever. I have noticed a similarity in the designs of the badge and the stamps and I believe the latter is based upon the regiment's badge, more so considering that each stamp commemorates an action in which Newfoundland troops took part.
