Default Unknown Brass Cap/Collar Badge

I would be grateful if someone could identify this Brass Badge - 32 mm in width & 20 mm in height comprising a laurel half circlet with a 'bar' accross. There is a symbol on the Bar - please see attached photo.
Thanks in advance.

Possibly the Greek letter A (Alpha).

I support 54Bty and confirm that it IS one of the ways that Alpha is printed in Greek. D.J.

Here is Alpha in the second word. The reply to the Persians when asked to throw down their arms (The Spartans) MOLON LABE (in English lettering). Means “Come and Get them”. Regards, DJ.
