That officer was ahead of his time.

There was mention in the media recently of Prince Charles supporting the idea of a Sikh Regiment in the British army.
Given the move towards Americanish unit names - could they be The Indian Scouts.

How about a regiment of Londoners - The Dick Van Dyke Cockerney Geezers?

Sorry, first cup of caffeine's just kicked in.

How about a unit of "Marauders" - oh, I don't know, maybe "Meghan's Marauders".
Charlie's Chindits"?

In Parliament, yesterday, it was stated which battalions would become Rangers and that 2 Mercian was being merged with 1 Mercian.

I didn't see any mention of that Leigh. Just the general outline of the Rangers theory and boosting the Royal Marines.

See post 18 by Colin S

“1 SCOTS, 2 PWRR, 2 LANCS and 4 RIFLES will form the Ranger units, so it’s only just a rebranding of the existing Specialised Infantry Group.”

You forgot "The Royal Guards". I have the utmost respect for the Cameronians and the York and Lancaster Regiment decision to disband instead of being subsumed ever deeper into economically viable units.
In a way, they continue to exist as they were known, whereas one has to shovel through a myriad of changes to find a thread to the others. Witness the unfortunate A&SH reduced to virtually nothing. Far better to disband than to face such a degrading fate in my opinion.
'Tis the nature of British nation ever to be seeking some new reformation....or something to that effect.
