Default 62nd regiment

Photo's in album section
As most of you will know the Wiltshire Regiment was formed from the 62nd & 99th regiments In my collection of band pouch badges I had 2 to the 62nd regiment ,die struck and cast One ex H k collection as sold as a band pouch badge ,and the other from the collection of a serious Wiltshire collection sold as a band pouch badge
Even though I had no information on these - N B I do have a large ref library, I purchased them anyway I was discussing these with a very knowledgable collector/dealer D P who suggested they could be Indian army .With the help of David Smith and his contact in the N A M a specialist on Indian army badges it was identified as a 62nd Bengal Native Infantry plate c 1855
Now have 2 Indian army spare plates
This may help others who collect to 62nd foot [1battalion Wiltshire regiment] from making the same mistake
Before anybody says this should have been in the Indian army section - main thread of the post was ref Wiltshire regiment
No I have not lost it buying Items that I am not sure of
David

Very interesting, David. Thank you for posting. My Great Uncle was 2nd Wilts during WW1, so I have always been interested in the regiment.

I guess you might call it a mistake if expecting them to be for the Wilts, but for myself, I would be quite pleased to find out they were early Indian Army as I collect them!
