Question 8th (City of London) Battalion The London Regiment early collar badge ?

Hi all,

I picked up this 8th Post Office Rifles badge all WM with broken central lug with a Guelphic crown and am not sure exactly what I have. It measures 33x27mm and has a central bugle with QV crown. I see no mention of a side cap badge in K&K nor no mention of a Guelphic crown to the cap badge as KC shown as K&K 1827. It lacks honour bars across the wreath. The collar badge in Churchill for the 8th Cost Office Rifles at Fig 1942 has no honours within the wreath like my example but is KC. Mine has honours that you cannot read on the arms of the Maltese cross.

So is mine an early collar badge. I assume the transfer from a VB of the Rifle Brigade had something to do with the Guelphic crown being used as per early RB badges as per K&K 703. I have found no Guelphic crown collar badges to the RB.

Guidance appreciated, cheers Dean.

Hello Dean,

Another option is a button hole badge.

Just a thought.....

Hi Andy,

Hadn't considered that - think it a collar unless the stump of what I think was a central lug was the stump of a slider but think too early for a slider. Cheers Dean
