Silvered RWF button help
I have some silvered Royal Welch Fusiliers buttons, with the C which has left me at a loss because as far as I understand it if they are VB or Militia, they should have the S and were phased out circa 1908, but the C was not introduced until circa 1920.
The uniform they are on also dates to circa 1908. Any thoughts on this anomaly would be greatly appreciated.

Jerry,
The use of "C" within Welch has been covered on many other threads. Only last month this was posted;- Jack, Your RWF white metal badge is for one of the volunteer battalions and pre-war. They can be silvered for NCOs, but more often than not it would be what was known as German silver i.e. Nickel. Both the 1st & 2nd VBs used the 'C' spelling in their battalion specific badges. As has been stated many times on this forum both the RWF & the Welsh Reg't used it throughout the Victorian period. Service battalions of the Welsh Reg't used this spelling during the 1st WW. It's use was officially sanctioned in 1920. Hwy,, Kevin Hwyl fawr, Kevin |
