Help with button ID please....
Hi all.
I wondered if I could possibly trouble those in the know for some button identifications. The first button had me stumped - or so I thought.... Lord Lieutenant? Is the second a militia button? I have included other bits found in the same area for your interest, a Portreath Artillery Volunteer coatee button - please ignore the watch key, and 18 C. sword belt hanger.... grid is in cm's. Thanks in advance. b. |

No3 is 1800's Royal Artillery but also worn by [Ordnance] Field Train Department (1792 - 1859)

Hello Benjum
If your first button is brass then it was also used by 'Other ranks on the Staff' - illustrated in Howard Ripley's book 'Buttons of the Regular Army 1855-2000', illustration 475. Annex A of the book lists all those instructed to wear this 'V.R. Button' Regards Roger |

Again I am in awe of the knowledge and expertise demonstrated. Thank you all for your time to reply, and the information supplied
If I am able to link military finds to a Cornish connection, I generally put the items on display at the DCLI Museum at Bodmin. They are trying to assemble a collection for volunteer and militia regiments. Button 2 is back marked but unreadable.... Many thanks team b. |
