White metal Cambridgeshire cap badge
This badge is one that puzzles me, mentioned in K&K Volume 2 (Fig.1817) and sealed 24 October 1952. Exactly the same as the normal bi-metal cap badge except it is all white metal, why was it produced?
Had they run short of gilding metal title scrolls? Were they a cheaper option as there was no extra work to do adding the G/M scroll? This one is in un-issued condition, my guess is that Cambridgeshire TA probably never wore them in any quantity and probably wore the bi-metal badge while stocks lasted until the amalgamation with the 4th Btn Suffolk Regt to form the Suffolk and Cambs Regt. Any ideas welcome. Rob |

Rob, I thought they wore the RA gun badge from 1947 to 1956 as a LAA Regiment RA, then, on conversion back to infantry, the new all-white metal Cambridgeshire Regiment cap badge came into use.

LAA Regiment RA
I am not sure as to whether they wore RA cap badges, if they did then the all white metal badge was short lived.

I'll need to do some digging, but I have some late WWII paperwork etc to a WWII RASC man who was Cambridgeshire Regiment during its RA phase post WWII.
Amongst the items is a posed photo of him with an ACC man, I'm fairly certain he's shown wearing the Cambridgeshire's cap badge rather than RA. I'll find the photo and, I think, supporting paperwork re. dates of service. |

Discharged from the RASC "Services No Longer Required - On Enlistment Into The Territorial Army", on 7/12/1948 enlisted for 2 years service in the LA and AA, posted to 629 LAA Regt RA TA (The Cambridgeshire Regiment).
The photo shows him wearing the Cambridgeshire's badge in GS Cap. |

Great photo Leigh, nothing like a photo to explain the wearing of badges.
