Canadian welcome home medallion
Picked up a fairly average ww1 group recently mainly because it had a bronze welcome home medallion named to recipient from Munson district which appears to be a tiny town in Alberta. Does anyone recognise this item, was it supplied by the people of Munson or was it a generic piece issued by the province of Alberta. P.S. The recipient was 434245 Sgt A.F. White 10th Canadian Infantry. Many thanks in advance.

I'm going to go out on an unsubstantiated limb and say it is a generic Canadian medal with a spot for the city/town/hamlet to engrave its name. The coat of arms is not the Alberta coat of arms, but has Ontario (UL), Quebec (UR), Nova Scotia (LL) and New Brunswick (LR) provincial arms showing on this side like a patriotic pin. Out of curiosity, are the remaining 5 provincial arms on the 2nd side?
Don't know where you live, but apparently the Toronto library has this book: Canadian Welcome Home Medals 1899-1945 Guess there's a book about just about anything eclectic.

The book covers the Welcome Home Medals from the Boer War, World War One and Two.....
Was written by the late George A. Brown in 1991 with a limited edition of 1000 copies...... The medal that you have is one of the two main generic patterns, there are many city and town designs but rather than have a new design made they would have purchased the generic patterns..... Then have the town name engraved on the front and the recipient on the reverse...... These generic medals depending on what the city, town or district had as a budget were made in Gold (10k), Silver or Bronze, made by Birks and Son...... I have a silver one that matches yours but it is away on a display right now and I will be damned if I can find the picture....... Mike P.S. The design / crest is supposed to be The Canadian Coat of Arms at the time.......
