Most unusual backing, not seen anything like it which makes me suspicious. All the bronze officer badges I have on file with blades are marked Gaunt on the back.
Would like to hear other opinions.

I have a similar backed WWCMR (no makers mark) , but it is brass and lugged . I bought it 20 years ago from Alf Abel from Hillside medals and badges. Christchurch .So I would not be writing your badge off just yet.

Hi bc,
I have a couple of solid bronze badges with smooth backs, one with lugs and with J.R.GAUNT/LONDON mark, the other with a brooch pin, unmarked.

The rest are stamped gilding metal, some blackened.

I've not seen this badge with tabs but they could have been attached later.

As pukman says, hold onto your badge for the time being.

Cheers,
Tinto

i will hold onto it if i do end up with it.
pukman mentioned a name that brought back fond memories. i used to buy so many australian items from Alf Abel and in return sell or trade him back the NZ items i found here in australia. i used to look forward to his lists arriving and would be on the phone (well before email) asap to reserve items and negotiate. what ever happened to Alf?

cheers

Hi bc,
Yes, Alf and Barbara Abel were a great couple. Barbara died awhile back and it seems Alf died in 2015:

Guys,
my Bronze WWCMR Officers badge.
Not the greatest of detail at front, and note the miss-match to tang width to back.
A bit dirty and remnants of a white label to back.

All the best
James

Hi Steve,

I have identical BOCK made ones. Not best quality as you say, but not that easy to find. Also have unmarked one same as the start of this thread, had it for many years, no reason to doubt it, was picked up locally in antique shop back in 1980s-1990s in Whangarei
