Hi

Very interesting and impressive display. I took a photograph of some SDF war graves in the CWGC Cemetery at Keren, Eritrea, in 2009, would you be interested in a copy for research/display purposes?

Regards

Graham

Hi Will

Please PM your email address and I'll send it to you - can't figure out how to do it on the Forum system. I have to say it isn't a brilliant photo, but you can read the names on the gravestones, and the CWGC site may have more info on them.

Regards

Graham

Default Sudan and KAR badges

What a joy to see such interesting and in some cases the rare badges you have posted. I have turned my interest from formation signs towards badges from this area and your pictures will give me a good reference guide, thanks, John.

An extraordinary collection of Sudanese badges. Most impressed and very pleased to learn something new.

There is one badge there that I was offered a while back, but as I could not match it to any Irish regiment I declined.
Why does the Sudan Defence Force, Supply Department have a shamrock on their capbadge?
A very nice display.

An impressive collection, handsomely displayed and well labelled.

Please may I ask, are your 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 6th King's African Rifles cap-badges made from AA?

Been looking for these cap-badges in Agonised Ally for a long time and have so far not seen even one original at first hand.

Thanks for sharing your collection.

Probably inherited from the British Army which traditionally used a shamrock as a coded symbol on boxed/crated rations and on signs at dumps. I have no idea why or when this originated but it was certainly in use in both World Wars. I'll find a reference in a British Army document later today.

Default RASC Supplies - Shamrock

Not the documentary evidence I was looking for, but it illustrates my point:
