Yes. It is the wide fronds version.

A rare badge methinks! Notice the top scroll "Glasgow Highlanders" Where it would normally be "the Royal Highlanders"!

I beg to differ Simon, If it was HLI (1st 2nd batts) It would state on the lower scroll "Highland Light Infantry"

This is the incorrect cap badge that was either made in error or by the Battalion who had a thing about the BW even thought they were HLI. It was not approved and not worn officially.

https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...pictureid=2940 https://www.britishbadgeforum.com/fo...pictureid=1003 See here for the other 3 approved versions. This badge was at best unofficial and may never have actually been worn. Gaylor mentions it as existing. The IT spelling of Lancessit was directed to be Lancesset in 1926. |

If you go to this thread you will see that I have posted an article from 1943 that describes its existence so it is not a 1970s fake but likely a maker's mistake.

It is indeed a scarce badge, I have had one for several years and when I spoke to Hugh King about it he said "is it spare".

I have had two of these over the years and discussed it in a previous thread. I sold the second one to the HLI old comrades as a conversation piece.

The owner has asked if anyone can give an approximate value for one of these badges, can anyone help?
Thanks, cheers, Alex |

Well personally as an unauthorised and possibly never worn badge it has a novelty value only. I would say £20 would be a good price if I was wanting to buy one but you might find 2 people at auction who want it badly The standard ones are £25-30 but the TF ones without the sphinx are closer to £80. A dealer might ask the same as the TF ones hoping to find someone who really wants one.
