Default What are these flags?

I have unintentionally found myself acquiring assorted Union Jack flags, and have started picking them up when the price is right. I have two that I am not sure are military. A fellow forum member says he wore the bottom one when he was involved with the scouts. It has a canvas type back. Is this a scout badge only or was it also worn by the military?

The top one is more like the issue in green worn on backing plates, but this one is in a white/off-white color. Is it military or some other?

Either way, I am happy to have them in my collection, but would like to know what they are.

Thanks for any information or comments.

Terry

The larger one may be a Scout badge though the back isn't the same as those I've seen.
I was issued brassards with the smaller badge on in 1999, worn by British police serving with the IPTF in Bosnia, but the one you show looks like it's cut from a roll, rather than made individually with Merrow edges.
I purchased a number of the smaller ones from a local Scout Shop which offered both badge sizes.
I suspect that your small badge may be a British army one?
A scout shop, smaller sized badge.

The smaller one looks like one of the early 1995 era CS95 ones. later ones has green khaki backing.

Default AMF(L) - Union Flag

I have a recollection that a small white background union flag with merrowed (oversewn) edges was worn by all UK units in the Allied Command Europe Mobile Force (Land) known as AMF(L). This was in the late 1970s (possibly earlier) and the badges were originally sourced from the Scout Association.

1 R ANGLIAN wore it on a brassard and when they moved from the AMF(L) to Celle in BAOR in 1978 they replaced the Union Flag with the ‘Minden’ Flash.

The Scout Shop come UK Police ones that I know of had the woven design showing from the back and the blue was a lighter colour than the larger badge shown in post no. 1.

A 1 RRF brassard issued in 1978 - a Scout Shop badge (the title is probably an ACF one, being utilised by 1 RRF).

Thank you Tim and Leigh for the additional information and the pictures - as they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words.". Obviously I need to find one of the smaller, white scout style badges.

Here's what I have so far, with about 5 or 6 more that I will be receiving after the new year.

I really appreciate all of the feedback and information, as it has been a big help on the story behind he scout badge!

I've been issued two other merrowed edge versions over the years - a medium sized version of the 'scout shop' type as an UNMO/Liason Officer with UNPROFOR in the early/mid 90s and a much larger merrowed version on JACIG brassards in the late 90s/early 2000s.

Gentlemen, Thank you for the new and additional information.

I recently obtained this UN brassard that seems to have he scout Union Jack on it. Not sure what time frame, but I believe, the UN patch is the earlier version, but not 100% sure and not what time frame, but still researching. Sorry it's a little blurry as it is cut from a picture of other patches to be shipped on the new year.

Terry, you're right it is the earlier UN badge, also early UN brassards for British Forces had the Union flag badge beneath the UN badge - later examples it's above. No doubt some will know the time frames - I would 'guess' this change was in the early 70's.

Here is another early example with Union flag below the UN emblem and few later types with Union flag above. Plus a stamped Red Cross for Terry!

Stealth mode.

Two non-issue UK Police brassards from 1999-2000 with the Scout Shop Union Flags masked (for "tactical" reasons and against UN regs.) by private purchase IPTF and UN Civilian Police insignia (some of which were issue for other national contingents) and with a UN issue UNMIBH title.
Private purchase silver bullion obsolete pattern UN roundels.
