RND MG Units Officers Collar

This one got a slagging the other day (I cannot find the thread to comment).

Cannot see what is wrong here, although I may be wrong, I cannot see much wrong with it, the the Jennens mark although crude, is similar to the example here on the Forums makers mark section, the lugs look good and the deterioration of the lettering is probably a result of casting. Is it not a die-cast silver officers collar? £50 for such a scarce item its not a bad price IMO?

'twas I, that 'slagged' this item.
I had hoped that others would be 'doubters' also.

IMO.....
this badge seems all wrong to me. At a glance & after careful scruitiny.
It does not look right,for a start. Has bad proportions.
I also doubt it ever existed. Never seen or heard of ,in 40 odd years,etc....not in itself a problem,am sure there are lots of these.
This is a very small badge,similar to known MGC varieties,of post war vintage.
The crown,which seems more worn than the rest,has been attached(or re-attached) later.See back pic.
Also looks somewhat small here (in proportion to the guns)? Though looks of same metal as the rest.
The lugs while looking OK, show poor workmanship with braize showing around the LH barrel on the front side.
The Letters (with cruder outlines to the back) are not so small as to be better made here. Just think of all the many Sweetheart badges of similar sizes,but better made ?
The maker's name is fairly crude here also. Smudged in die-casting ?
Generally speaking J&Co. were makers of top quality Officer's badges. Professionals.This would not pass muster with them, a uniform outfitter or an Officer, I'm sure, here.
All adds up to smell more than a little 'fishy' , to me ??

PS: a collector/jeweller friend also commented that he though the quality was far too poor, with a look of fairly modern,unprofessional manufacture.

I concur - the guns may be original but they have been added to.

Comments above noted, however without being in a position to view at first hand, I will end as I started by saying that it looks like a genuine item in not so good condition. Perhaps an original adaptation of a MCG collar into a RND badge?

Perhaps whoever wins the item (if a Forum member) will post some better images?

We all know the number of faked RND MGC cap badges out there.....

Was there ever a collar of similar description. The badge was field made and used s/t's. Would they have made collars? Surely collars would have been simple MGC or nothing at all?

I ask as I simply dont know!

Having an interest in the RND any info welcome.

Here is a genuine Jennens MGC collar badge, small (1919) size. Unmarked silver. It belonged to my grandfather and I have photographs of him wearing it (regretably it is the only MGC badge of his that survived !)

What I really don't like about the RND one is the J & Co lettering - far too crude (as Steve said !).
I have no idea as to whether the RND bit is genuine but I am very dubious about the badge itself !
