Default Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's) Strange Device/ Lions Head Attached - Help Identifiy

I am wondering if the device (looks like a lion or tiger face) affixed to the middle of this badge is legitimate, why it was placed there and what time period it would be from. Thanks very much for your help!

Dave

Dave,

Its a fantasy piece, complete fabrication. The back plate also looks like its a fake badge anyway.

regards
