Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry Highlanders in Holland?
Found this lovely photo in a local militaria shop. I was looking for pics of Calgary Highlanders, but I think this might be SD&G Highlanders (from the shape of the cap badge & shoulder titles). What do people think? Also, is this a photo anyone has seen before? The store had what looked like the original print, so I suspect not.

The houses look very, very Dutch indeed.

Nice image. It is one of the 3 CID regiments, either the SD & G or maybe the Highland Light Infantry?

Hi Bill,
I was leaning away from the HLI due to the shape of the cap badge, which is just about discernible on one of the chaps at the rear of the carrier. It has a protruding blob on the top which the HLI cap badge doesn't. |

Can you post a close up?

Thanks Burton. Give the close-up I would agree that they are likely SD & G Highlanders.

Thanks, glad of the confirmation. Since the photo does not seem to be online, do you know of any group I should send it to? I've found a SD&G Highlander photo researcher on the MLU forum. Any others that might be interested in it?

Hi Burton
May I ask on another forum by posting your photo? Also, the chap on the right in the rear compartment, facing the camera; one can see his shoulder title. Not much of a cloth guy but could you narrow the unit down by their canvas' shape and designs? regards Darrell

Are there any clues in the markings on the carrier?

Hi Darrell,
Yes, by all means post elsewhere. And yes, the shoulder title matches the shape of the SD&G Highlanders, but also a few others. The text is not quite readable when zoomed in. |

Yes, Thomas, I wondered about the carrier's markings, but I know nothing about them :-)

Hi Darrell, the SD & G and HLI are similar shapes. And, it is not uncommon to find titles were customized by the soldier.

For what it's worth, here's the close up of the title.
