Default Navy? cap badge identification

I have this family photo (possibly my grandfather) but i can't find this cap badge online, anyone help?

Not a badge I'm familiar with so not Navy, must be a Merchant Navy company badge.

I agree with Alex. It's certainly not any Royal Navy badge and therefore probably the badge of some shipping company but I haven't a clue which one.

Can you show more detail of the cap badge and a button?
Most merchant shipping lines had individual buttons as well as cap badges.
The buttons on the shoulders look odd. Again most, especially UK and Commonwealth lines used epaulettes similar to the RN.
